Essen, Germany – Australian technology innovator, Moreton Bay Systems, today launched its new Vidilanz™ security camera technology in Europe after four years of intensive research & development.
Vidilanz™ is the first intelligent portable security camera designed to connect directly to existing alarm systems, providing clear still images of intruders.
The Vidilanz™ unique ultra low power video processing technology also enables it to operate as a standalone surveillance camera for up to 9 weeks on one small internal battery, compared to only six hours for its closest competitors. This opens up thousands of different applications across many fields.
Vidilanz™ is the brainchild of David Hill, managing director of Moreton Bay Systems. He has many years of experience in the electronics industry and founded Moreton Bay Systems after seeing an opportunity in the digital security and surveillance camera market. Formerly, he was Australian general manager of Motorola Semiconductors.
According to Hill, Vidilanz™ marks a real shift in thinking in the security industry.
“It revolutionises the digital video security market by offering a different technical approach to capturing and processing images, and a longer battery life than anything else on the market,” Hill said.
“Our concept was to take digital still images at whatever frame rate is necessary for the particular application or environment, and we have developed our own video processing engine to do that at a very low power level.”
A lower cost variant of the Vidilanz™ surveillance camera is the security system version which is a first step for the householder or business to upgrade their existing alarm system to become an image based alarm system. The camera is simply a drop-in replacement for existing motion detectors and takes only minutes to setup.
“This provides an added insurance policy so that if someone does break in, you can access the images and get a full visual history leading up to the break in.
“You get very clear JPEG images from the camera, which are better for getting convictions.”
“We’ve had interest from all sorts of commercial groups – including industrial and mining, department stores, fast food chains, tourism operators, Government and small business – through to domestic household sites.”
Winfried Holzapfel of AVT GmbH in Aschaffenburg Germany and Ron Johnson of Videcom Security in Essex England, both Vidilanz distributors, have been extensively trialling and selling the product to a large number of customers.
“We’ve had many large organisations including the Police using the cameras and have had very good reports back from all groups”, Holzapfel said.
“I’ve always thought that this type of product was needed in the security industry,” adds Johnson, “there is really nothing else out there like it.”
“Vidilanz can easily be moved from site to site because of its cost effective ‘no wires’ installation, which makes it great for commercial, domestic and remote applications, and for protecting high risk goods,” Johnson said.
It has been tested and approved to meet standards in Australia, New Zealand, the United States and Europe.
